Deborah Vadell serves as the Clinical Director for Comfort Recovery. Deborah holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of South Florida and a Master of Science in Sociology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of Florida. She has twenty six years of experience in the field of behavioral health, addiction and mental health treatment. As Clinical Director, Deborah supervises, manages and provides leadership for all clinical staff members at Comfort Recovery, as well as the overall clinical operations of the program.
Wendy Hinely, the Director of Housing at Comfort Recovery, is responsible for maintaining a comfortable, recovery-focused atmosphere for clients beyond the treatment facility. Wendy is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our residential property, including training and managing staff, coordinating delivery of services, budgeting client activities, and maintaining the schedules of our Partial Hospitalization clients. Working directly with our clients, Wendy helps to ensure their first steps into sober life are steady and in the right direction.
Jamal Hunter serves as the Operations Manager for Comfort Recovery where he oversees operations at our facilities and manages other projects. Jamal earned his Bachelor of Education from Eastern Michigan University. Jamal has worked with Niznik Behavioral Health for over two years and is passionate about helping the clinical team serve the needs of clients while assisting staff with their day-to-day goals and assignments. Kathleen Manalis serves as Case Management Supervisor for Comfort Recovery. Kathleen earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Nursing from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut. She is also a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC). Kathleen has more than seven years of experience working for the psychiatric unit at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut and eight years of experience working as a dual diagnosis addiction counselor combined with five years of case management leadership. At Comfort Recovery, she engages new clients and conducts regular reviews of program policies and procedures. She provides educational support and resources to both staff and clients, as well as advocates for external client support services. Kathleen also assists in helping her clients learn “community-building” skills, resolve conflicts and clear pathways for long-term sobriety.
Jenifer Smith serves as a lead therapist for Comfort Recovery. Jenifer holds both a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Barry University in Miami, Florida. She facilitates the women’s gender groups and specializes in trauma counseling and family therapy.
Fred Mims serves as a lead therapist for Comfort Recovery. Fred earned both a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling and a Master of Arts in Human Service Administration from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. He has more than 20 years of experience working in the substance abuse and mental health field. Fred is also a certified sex therapist and has worked with various diverse populations including women, children, the elderly, those infected with HIV/AIDS, and the homeless population. At Comfort Recovery, Fred specializes in relapse prevention, facilitates the men’s gender groups and age specific (Over 30 years old) groups.
Robert Buscemi is a lead therapist for Comfort Recovery. Robert earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and his Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Florida. He spent 18 years in private practice and served as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) therapist for the City of Jacksonville, Florida from 1996 to 2001. Fred also worked for Charter Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida until 1992. At Comfort Recovery, he specializes in family, individual and group counseling facilitating team building groups and leading a group development committee.
Marcel San Pedro
Marcel San Pedro serves as a lead therapist for Comfort Recovery. Marcel earned his Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Prior to coming to Comfort Recovery, Marcel worked at Larkin Community Hospital. Marcel provides individual and group counseling.
With a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Florida International University, Jessica Hernandez is a valuable member of the behavioral health team at Comfort Recovery.
